King Rail (Rallus elegans) Study The University of Tennessee Wetlands Program (http://fwf.ag.utk.edu/mgray/WetlandLab/WetlandsProgram.htm) seeks a highly motivated individual to lead independent research on the brood ecology and survival of king rails (KIRA) on the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge (http://www.fws.gov/tennesseerefuge/). KIRA populations are declining throughout much of their range, and low recruitment of chicks is one hypothesized mechanism. This study will quantify characteristics associated with nesting and brood rearing sites and will estimate the survival of chicks and adults using radio telemetry. The research specialist will build skills in capturing secretive marsh birds, radio transmitter attachment and tracking, and wetland habitat assessment techniques. |

| Qualifications: |
Requirements: B.S. or M.S. in wildlife ecology or related biological sciences. Previous experience with avifauna is required. Individuals seeking careers in wetland or avian ecology are preferred. The individual must be physically capable of conducting fieldwork in wetlands.
Salary and Housing: The position pays $1600 $1920 /month depending on qualifications and includes housing at Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge. A vehicle will be provided for fieldwork. The position extends for 6 months, starting no later than 1 March 2010.
