| Job Description: | Graduate Assistant (M.S.) needed to conduct research on large data set of bird populations in Ohio. Some flexibility in thesis topic, but research questions should complement objectives of the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II (2006-2011; http://www.ohiobirds.org/obba2/). OBBA II seeks to document the current distribution of breeding birds in Ohio and examine distributional changes since the first Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas in the mid-1980s, and generate statistical estimates of abundance and population size. Field work in 2009 and 2010 will involve conducting surveys of birds, observing bird behavior for evidence of breeding, and recording atlas data. Fieldwork will begin in May 2010, with classes to start September 2010.
Salary ca. $19,000/year plus tuition and benefits. Support will consist of a combination of teaching and research assistantships, and summer wages. |

| Qualifications: |
Strong field experience with songbirds is required, including experience with survey methods. Applicants must have a solid handle on the identification and natural history of eastern North American birds, and strong quantitative background. Good communication skills and high motivation level are required. Experience with other birds groups (non-songbirds) and GIS applications are a plus.
