| Job Description: | Manages fisheries research biologists and projects. Assesses research needs to meet wildlife management objectives. Conducts coordination meetings for new and ongoing research projects. Reviews available information and publications to develop new research ideas and advise current projects. Assesses research project feasibility and writes and submits proposals for approval. Solicits funds from government, non-governmental, and private sources. Develops interagency agreements and contracts. Directs development of study plans, leads scoping meetings, solicits input, and reviews and coordinates overall project development. Evaluates planned activities, time frame, and budgets for current and proposed projects. Provides logistical support to subordinate staff including management of equipment, supply acquisition, and allocation of resources. Monitors data collection, expenditures, budgets, overall work schedules, and project performance. Visits work sites to be familiar with ongoing research projects sometimes in extreme working conditions and irregular working hours. Advises and acts on behalf of the Branch Chief. Develops and maintains working relationships with partner organizations, government agencies, interest groups, the media and public. Evaluates branch activities and effectiveness as well as the needs of other agencies, user, and special interest groups. Serves as Department representative on the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Technical Work Group. Participates in outreach and training events. In-state and out-of-state travel as well as weekend and holiday work occasionally required. | |
| Qualifications: |
The candidate must have a Bachelors degree in a wildlife science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and four years of professional experience in wildlife research or wildlife management. A graduate degree in a wildlife science or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.
